Children start to learn about the world around them from the moment they are born. The care and education offered by our setting helps children to continue to do this by providing all the children with interesting activities that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.
- We set out to assist all children attending the nursery to attain their maximum potential within their individual capabilities. A record of each child's development is maintained, showing their abilities and progress made. These records are used to help each child’s learning and development by building on what they already know. Each child’s record of achievement is one of the ways in which key worker and parents work in partnership.
- We assess how young children are learning and developing by observing them frequently. We use information gained from observations, as well as from photographs or videos of the children to document their progress and where this may be leading them.
- Staff are very aware of the importance of the correct play environment for the child, so they may develop good social skills and an appreciation of all aspects of this country's multi-cultural society. Planning of the learning experience by the staff is further designed to ensure, as far as practical, equality of opportunity between all children.
- We promote the relevant frameworks and curriculum set by the DCFS to support and enhance children’s learning and development holistically. We develop a tailor made curriculum according to individual needs, which is based on observation to inform planning and draws on children’s needs and interests. We believe that parents know their children best and we ask them to contribute to planning by sharing information about what children like to do at home and how they as parents are supporting development.
